Tipping the tooth fairy.

Here's a tip, folks: take care of your teeth. The saga of tooth 31 has come to a bitter end. The molar that I had double root canaled back in June of '03 broke. That's what happens when you get a root canal and never have a crown put on.
So after it broke, I saw my new dentist, who unsurprisingly informed me that the tooth had be extracted by an oral surgeon because it fractured below the jaw line.
Oh by the way, I had six cavities in need of filling. SIX.
So, I made an appointment to get the fillings done at 8:30AM yesterday, followed by the extraction at 10:00. Well, the fillings were "complicated" and took the entire hour and a half to complete. Let me tell you it's not easy to keep your mouth open for that long with gagging on your own saliva. Gag I did.
After the fillings, I went across the hall to the oral surgeon. (By the way, I just love the term "maxillofacial".) Once I filled out my paperwork and finally got into the chair, The oral surgeon gave me a thankfully generous dose of Novacaine. Everything from my shoulders up went numb.
He then did a quick examination of the molar, and let me know that this was going to be a tricky extraction, requiring a scalpel. I came into the office with the idea that it would take 5 seconds with a pair of Craftsman pliers to put an end to this little problem. I was dead wrong.
Let's just say that he was right. He had to chop the tooth into little bits, after making several incisions weren't enough. At one point, his assistant had to hold my head in place because of the force being applied. By the way, he was REALLY good through this ordeal: "You're going to hear a little noise, don't be alarmed.... CRUNCH!". I wanted to scream "I'LL TALK I'LL TALK!!!".
After it was all over and done with, I got a nice comfy prescription for Percoset. It turns out I'd need them. After I got home and the novacaine started wearing off the pain set in... and the bleeding. I've tasted nothing but blood for two freaking days. It's still bleeding. It still hurts.
What makes matters worse is the fact that since I had what was supposed to be a routine set of fillings done as well, one of them is not quite... right. I now have a previously nonexistent blinding pain on one of my newly filled teeth on the left side, which means I can't chew ANYTHING.
Somebody bring me some goddamned baby food.
