What is this world coming to?

29 09 2003
I have seen some screwed up stories in my time, but this one really takes the whole freaking bakery. According to this CNN story, a four year old boy (you read it right... four!) shot and killed his five year old sister with a .45, and also critically wounded his seven year old brother.

If you read the story, you'll notice:
  1. The parents had a loaded firearm in the house.
  2. The loaded firearm was kept where a four year old could get to it.
  3. The kids were home alone. Ages 10, 5 and 4.
  4. The boy obviously found shooting people to be a pretty 'normal' behavior.
According to the police, the child is in no danger from a prosecution standpoint. Makes sense... he's only four. They mention that the mother may face charges for leaving the gun within reach and/or leaving the children without supervision.

Am I the only one here who thinks these parents (why no mention of the father being held responsible?) should be strung up by their ears for a public execution? I understand that they are grieving over the loss of their child, and for the irreparable damage done to their son, but this is absolute lethal parental neglect if I ever saw it. What if the child killed was mine or yours?

No doubt that this will be turned into a situation where it's the "gun's fault", and not the poor grieving parents, and all guns should be banned. Bull$*!t!

Christ I am pissed off.

Ban violent videogames!!! Ban violent movies!!! Ban free speach!!!

I am sure you will see something like one of the statements above come up as a result of this incident.

How about, pay attention to your kids, spend time with them, take an interest in them, talk to them, teach them. Needless to say I could keep going on and on about this.

I am the first to admit I know almost nothing about raising children seeing I have none of my own. However, common sense is another thing. Young children are extremely easy to influence. You need to teach them about the world so that s4!t like this never happens.

Damn parents that have kids and never deal with em. Its the school's fault, its the music's fault. Bulls4!t!!! Its your damn fault as a parent, or lack of in this case, to see your children are raised properly. If you have kids they are YOUR responsibility, not everyone elses.

When in doubt blame someone else. Friggin' people need to spend some time in a cell with some big hairy, sweaty guy named Bubba.

Note: I applaud people like Shawn and Tina who actually talk with their children, not at them. They take the time to raise their children and teach them. Good job you two, I wish more parents were as passionate about their children as you were.

...Didn't the smae thing happen a few yers ago? A 4 or 5 year old boy killed his dad because his 'responsible' cop father left it on the kitchen table and the boy grabbed it and shot him in the back...
Horrid.

Yeah, Dia. I seem to remember something exactly like that. Cop or not, he is as much to blame as the parents in this case.

UGH!...
Look I have no issue with Guns, personally I don't own one, and have no interest in owning one, I can't hit the broadside of a barn with one...
However I have no issue with responsible gun ownership which this is clearly NOT a case of...
People for ****sake if ya own a gun keep it someplace where other people (aka Kid's, Criminals who get into your house, and general idiots who can't use it responsibly) can't get to it. A heavy 200lb+ Locked gun safe to which only you have the key or combination comes to mind. And NO keeping the Gun in one place, the key in another, and the bullets in another is NOT how you do it.
If you own a gun for display (an Old Flint Lock, or what have you) LOCK it to the wall and remove the internal firing mechanisims(Firing Pin whatever)...

As for these parents I greive for their Loss and their stupidity, however they need to be punished as well for being so stupid! Both of them, and if its an absentee father situation he should sue the hell out of the Mother if he cares one iota about his kids.
